Dim Notes is a private notes app — encrypted on your device, free of AI, and built to stay small.
It's an independent project. No investors, no parent company, and no plans for either.
Most notes apps are racing to add AI. Most privacy apps are owned by larger companies that may not share their original priorities. Most notes apps have grown into workspaces with templates, blocks, and databases.
Dim Notes is the alternative to all three. A private notebook, kept simple, that won't be quietly turned into something else.
These commitments shape what gets built and what doesn't:
No AI features. Not now, not later. The reason notes are private is so they can be unfinished, half-formed, or wrong. Adding a model that wants to clean them up defeats the point.
No investors, no acquisition. Outside funding comes with growth expectations that conflict with what makes a notes app good. Subscriptions from people who use the product is enough.
No tracking, no ads, no data sold. Privacy isn't a feature here. It's the premise.
No bloat. Folders, tags, search, and rich text — the features you'd expect from a notes app and nothing else. Templates, blocks, databases, and plugins are not on the roadmap. Ever.
A security whitepaper documenting the encryption design is at /security. It includes what we protect against, what we don't, and acknowledged limitations. It's the most important document on this site for verifying that the privacy claims are real.
If anything on this page ever stops being true — investors arrive, AI gets added, the product is acquired — that change will be announced openly, with users given the chance to export their notes and leave.
Dim Notes is built by Ender, a solo developer. Ender is a pseudonym used for this project — not because there's anything to hide, but because privacy products are sometimes the targets of harassment and the founder of one is more useful to users than the founder of one with a public personal brand.
There's one person behind Dim Notes. Same person writes the code, answers support email, and decides what gets built. No team, no investors, no plans for either.
